Hello All,
Welcome to my channel. Most of what happens here is relevant to car restoration. Now there are an awful lot of people more experienced than I on the subject, so please don't be too critical, it's all done in my garage at home and I work as a hobbyist. I'm a prior VACC motor mechanic and electronics technician and for the past 14 years, have been employed by the Department of Education as a secondary teacher. If you're interested, check out my website at: www.chasingbrokencars.weebly.com You will find quite a few cars there that I've recommissioned or restored, as it's only been since late 2012 that I decided to video document my work. Peculiar in one sense... I hated working on cars for a living, but immensely enjoy it as a hobby. I hope you enjoy my videos and whatever you do, please drive carefully and enjoy your classic.
Cheers Peter

XA Falcon Wagon Pt2 Clean and Examine
Here we have a pretty close look at the XA Falcon 500 wagon. There will be two videos detailing the condition, as there was insufficient time to blow the car apart to the level we needed. There are many surprises, some good and some not so good. Hope you enjoy!

ZK Fairlane Pt10 - Starting the Fit Out
Просмотров 3,4 тыс.День назад
Not a huge amount here, but we do get the heater A/C box and insulation installed, as well as the steering box, brake booster and master, plus the beginnings of wiring. Once I find where I left a few of the parts, a whole raft of other parts can join the party haha, hope you enjoy!
ZK Fairlane Pt9 - Painting the Engine Bay and More
Просмотров 4,5 тыс.21 день назад
In this video, we drain the fuel tank in preparation for safe storage and remove all fuel and vapour related lines from the car. This will allow us to safely chop into the back of the car and replace any rusted metal with new. The engine bay gets painted as stated and although not my best work, looks okay. Now we just need to sort through all the fittings and fasteners in preparation for re-ass...
ZK Fairlane Pt8 - Preparing Engine Bay, Removing Fuel Tank and Plumbing
Просмотров 3,5 тыс.Месяц назад
Not as much as I'd like to include in this chapter, but some important items get attended to. We send a load of dirty parts off for hydroblasting and zinc plating, clean up the engine bay and prepare for paint and look at the fuel return plumbing and decide on its removal after comparing it to the original V8 XD Falcon. We also drop the fuel tank as well as find a few other things that require ...
A Parts Hack, or a Fixer? Introducing the XA Falcon Wagon
Просмотров 6 тыс.Месяц назад
Just a quick video this time... I wasn't going to say anything about this old hack until it turned up, which won't be until later in the month. So XA Wagon? Not planned but one of those things which showed up and I snapped at... Take a look and see what you reckon. Hope you enjoy!
ZK Fairlane Pt7 - Steering Box Re-assembly and Heater Box Refurbish
Просмотров 3,4 тыс.Месяц назад
So we now have a reconditioned engine, transmission, steering box, heater box and some new parts for the front end. This video (as the title says) deals with the second half of the steering box reco and the heater box. We strip the heater box, clean it up, fit new foam to the interior doors and flaps and fit a new heater core. Hope you enjoy!
ZK Fairlane Pt6 - Front Suspension and Steering Box Tear Down
Просмотров 3,7 тыс.Месяц назад
We totally strip the front and of the Fairlane and remove the steering box. The usual consumable wear with the front end; upper and lower control arm and radius rod bushes, sad looking tie rod ends, totally knackered spring saddles and a pair of unwanted 6 cylinder springs. But, the part I was interested in was the leaky steering box, which virtually ran along the chassis rail to the back seat ...
ZK Fairlane Pt5 - The Repaired Plenum Chamber Plus More
Просмотров 4,2 тыс.2 месяца назад
Well, here's the second part of our plenum chamber repair, although I did lose some re-assembly footage. Despite the beginning of Winter being upon us and other items to attend to, I'm happy with the progress. Hope you enjoy!
Ford C4 Transmission Overhaul - Reassembly
Просмотров 4,2 тыс.2 месяца назад
Well, we have replaced all the worn and suspect parts in the transmission including all steel and friction clutch plates, the intermediate band, the sprag clutch rollers and springs, the govenor and front pump rings, the front pump gear set, all thrust washers and the modulator valve. We have also replaced all rubber seals for the servo pistons, as well as the forward clutch and reverse/high cl...
What Have I Been Doing?
Просмотров 3,5 тыс.2 месяца назад
Just a quick five minute video explaining the work I've been doing on the Fairlane rust issues and the C4 transmission rebuild. I have loads of footage of both jobs, so should be able to finish them over the following week... certainly hope so, my memory card is fast filling up haha... Anyway, hope you enjoy!
ZK Fairlane Pt4 - The Rusty Plenum Chamber Repair

In this video, we tear apart the top of the Fairlane's plenum chamber, cut the rust out and (almost) finish the repair. Hope you enjoy!
Ford C4 Transmission Overhaul - Teardown and Assess
Просмотров 5 тыс.3 месяца назад
Well, I'm at the end of the holidays, but didn't have enough footage on any of the cars for suitable video. So after I arrived home yesterday afternoon, I decided to spend a couple of hours in the garage stripping this C4 transmission and making a quick video, showing the entire process! We have a short chat about it, then we start swinging spanners and strip the entire transmission down to not...
ZK Fairlane Pt3 - A Ford and a Holden Six
Просмотров 4,5 тыс.4 месяца назад
A confusing title I'm sure. This chapter is 85% Fairlane and the remaining looks at the (kind of unique) 202 we purchased for the EJ Holden. I was initially thinking about work on the XC, but I need to get it outside and we had a lot of rain, so we looked at this car instead. Where the Fairlane is concerned, most of the disassembly is behind us now, with only a few odd and ends left to attend t...

Mate thats better then DJ mint hahaha Id say keep it if you didn't have 45 other projects 😂 Or use it for the mapping to build the other xa and if you come past or people send you a part or 2 do it up later We cleaned out the Brougham mate the Big Fella is keen to get this on the road haha Take it easy mate Byron 👍
Thanks mate, definitely too many projects here, but I'm kinda into that. DJ mint is folk law; I've never seen it in person... but if our buddy Donald says a car is too far gone, it would be unrecognisable!
Awesome score Peter! Always great to see another new project added to the collection!

This girl is going to be a huge amount of work, but, imagine how beautiful she will be when finished. A rare eye catcher, love the wagons. Once restored maybe only one of a few in Aus? Going to be well worth the wait, and the work.
XA and a longroof! love it! man I can just picture the kelly green shining and the roof rack and hub caps sparkling, thin pin white walls and a 302 burble :)
'This isn't going to be done quickly' .... How many projects do you have on the go? How long have you been working on them? Please finish some! but look forward to watching none the less!
I know I'm pretty frustrating from that angle, sorry about that! It is a hobby though and I go where the mood takes me. I've been continuously filming, editing and publishing videos on this platform since October 2012, with no real time off. Quite often, it takes weeks to do a repair and it only yields one video. I'm happy to keep going with these shenanigans, but if it was to feel like work and stress crept in, I'd stop doing it. I have finished quite a few projects, the rest will come, cheers.
Reuse recycle is always good - but nothing's like cruising in a sleeper 302 tbar auto, whatever you choose to do with it Peter, I'm sure it will come up a treat
I would be making it 6 cylinder and auto.
This one deserves saving, but don't they all? Good job Peter. 😊
I Like the looks of the XA more than the XB and never saw many around as a 73 gen Xer. Make it a plain Jane charmer, dog dish caps, six cylinder, zero luxury load lugger. It will garner interest aplenty.
I feel sorry for you.
Not worth repairing..you'd get more for Scrap...
Why not use the 6 out of the fairlane and the auto box and you would have a driveable wagon that requires some work just a thought as you have the running gear from the fairlane that could free up some space and give the wagon a chance to relive
That's precisely what I'll do, cheers.
6 cyl Tbar auto and tidy it up, fix the rust.
That's the plan, cheers.
You've spent $12k on that Fairlane, and who knows how much on a p.o.s. XA wagon. Try this ........ spend a miniscule fraction of that on a wireless lapel microphone 👍
So you can hear me better, then post more rude comments?
@@PeterAndersons Constructive criticism actually, but I acknowledge there is a fine line between that and discourtesy ....... usually measured by the sensitivity of the recipient.
She needs to be shiny again. She’s still got good bones. Loads of work though.
Great minds think alike, cheers mate!
@@PeterAndersons If you put the 6 in, are you going to strip down the motor? I’d like to see a 6 being built.
XB front doors
Oh your back.... , do you still have the Suzuki T250 ?
Yeah, it was in the garage a bit over 2 mins into the video, cheers.
6 cylinder the old girl
That's what I'll do for now, cheers.
Hi Peter, get the wagon safe and running with six out of the Fairlaine? It's too good to junk. More cars need to be saved. Otherwise, we would have no history of Aussie cars left to show.
I couldn't agree more, yes the 6 from the Fairlane will go in, cheers.
Colour looks like Pottery Beige…
I'd say you're probably correct, cheers.
I could smell it too as you were checking it over. 😊
Oddly enough, it doesn't smell at all... with very little rotted carpet and no front or rear glass to hold humidity in, we dodged a bullet on that one, cheers.
Great episode, looking forward to future vids 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks 👍
“Owners manual not there” haha
Definitely fix it,pretty good for rust really. Not many xa about now
Certainly will, but I'll just get it going for now, cheers.
Tidy it up Peter and save it for another day with the 302
That's the plan, cheers.
Looks like you might have a home for the 4.1 you took out of the Fairlane?
Indeed!
Omg! Peter! You need to stop dragging strange cars home! 😮 ... the chicken wire is choice though!
I know, I have some issues with old cars haha, cheers.
Hey Peter would the wagon be a good candidate for a TAFE project ?
Auto training is now more small module based rather than project based, cheers.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🙏🙏 its a rust bucket.
Great ep Pete, wagon looks like a keeper. Your XD is beautiful 👍👍
@@chrisF351 Thanks buddy we have some catching up to do, cheers
Diagnosis: Mental caries...😅
Looks like it was the same green as my Auntie's old XA wagon.
Definitely worth saving!
🤣
Nice same colour as our xB wagon growing up which carried my parents and 5 of us around. Awesome.
The wagon is so much better than I was expecting. It is definitely too good to cut up. For the sake of simplicity and to do something different (does everything have to be a V8?) make it a 6 with that 3 speed floor shift, which could be some sort of after market kit maybe? I had a friend who had an XK Falcon (in 1969) which had a Hurst 3 speed floor shift conversion which only moved in a fore and aft action. From memory, you had to push the lever down and forward for 1st and then pull it back (it sprung up) into 2nd and push it forward for 3rd. Reverse was push down and pull back. It also had a Lukey muffler and it sounded fab! Oh, memories, memories. Anyway, the XA is a brilliant opportunity. When you get over the excitement of it and have a chance to look at it rationally, I'm sure you will come up with something. 😊👍 P.S. Totally agree about the roof rack, excellent looking thing.
Sounds like a Speco Quick Shift, i had one as well back in the 80's.
Thanks Pauline, always a pleasure to hear from you. No everything doesn't need to be a V8, I just have a spare in bits here and I like to resurrect old junk. Despite that though, I'll be using the 6 cylinder engine, auto transmission and T-bar shifter I removed from the Fairlane - at least for now. I had to replace the shifter on the Fairlane because 6's and V8's are controlled from opposite sides. Stay well and I'll hopefully catch up with you soon, cheers.
@@PeterAndersons Sounds like a good plan for the car. 😊👍
What a beaut, She isn't the worst I have seen. My XB is in about the same kind of condition. I have a soft spot for wagons. You see a lot of people with coupes and four doors, but you dont see too many people with wagons which is what draws me more to them than the others.
Store the long roof until the time is right. Half arseing it means ultimately doing the job twice.
True, but I still have to half arse another engine in for now, just so I can move it, cheers.
Good luck with the XA Wagon, it looks pretty f$&ked
Absolutely does, but none of it looks particularly difficult, the sedan it a harder job, cheers.
XA wagon is way cooler than the Fairlane. Do a 'backshed' style resto then move it on and use the cash you make to finish your Plymouth.
It is a bit cooler, but I have a couple of other cars to move on before this one, cheers.
Pete out in his natural environment - saving the unsavable.
@@farnthboy and as the late Maxwell Smart said ‘…and loving it!, haha cheers
@@PeterAndersons How do you go with all the Rego's Peter, they keep going up !
Get it running as a 6 I recommend
Will do!
302
Maybe sometime later, cheers.
where's the XC mate y haven't you finished that of the XA needs to be done right i think.
The XC is here, need to finish off the final few things that's all... it's 99% done, cheers.
