Hello All,
Welcome to my channel. Most of what happens here is relevant to car restoration. Now there are an awful lot of people more experienced than I on the subject, so please don't be too critical, it's all done in my garage at home and I work as a hobbyist. I'm a prior VACC motor mechanic and electronics technician and for the past 14 years, have been employed by the Department of Education as a secondary teacher. Not a huge amount here, but we do get the heater A/C box and insulation installed, as well as the steering box, brake booster and master, plus the beginnings of wiring. Once I find where I left a few of the parts, a whole raft of other parts can join the party haha, hope you enjoy!

In this video, we drain the fuel tank in preparation for safe storage and remove all fuel and vapour related lines from the car. This will allow us to safely chop into the back of the car and replace any rusted metal with new. The engine bay gets painted as stated and although not my best work, looks okay. We send a load of dirty parts off for hydroblasting and zinc plating, clean up the engine bay and prepare for paint and look at the fuel return plumbing and decide on its removal after comparing it to the original V8 XD Falcon. ZK Fairlane Pt7 - Steering Box Re-assembly and Heater Box Refurbish

So we now have a reconditioned engine, transmission, steering box, heater box and some new parts for the front end. This video (as the title says) deals with the second half of the steering box reco and the heater box. We strip the heater box, clean it up, fit new foam to the interior doors and flaps and fit a new heater core. Hope you enjoy!

We totally strip the front and of the Fairlane and remove the steering box. The usual consumable wear with the front end; upper and lower control arm and radius rod bushes, sad looking tie rod ends, totally knackered spring saddles and a pair of unwanted 6 cylinder springs. Well, we have replaced all the worn and suspect parts in the transmission including all steel and friction clutch plates, the intermediate band, the sprag clutch rollers and springs, the govenor and front pump rings, the front pump gear set, all thrust washers and the modulator valve. Just a quick five minute video explaining the work I've been doing on the Fairlane rust issues and the C4 transmission rebuild. Mate thats better then DJ mint hahaha Id say keep it if you didn't have 45 other projects 😂 Or use it for the mapping to build the other xa and if you come past or people send you a part or 2 do it up later We cleaned out the Brougham mate the Big Fella is keen to get this on the road haha Take it easy mate Byron 👍
Thanks mate, definitely too many projects here, but I'm kinda into that. DJ mint is folk law; I've never seen it in person... but if our buddy Donald says a car is too far gone, it would be unrecognisable!

This girl is going to be a huge amount of work, but, imagine how beautiful she will be when finished. A rare eye catcher, love the wagons. Once restored maybe only one of a few in Aus? Going to be well worth the wait, and the work.
XA and a longroof! love it! man I can just picture the kelly green shining and the roof rack and hub caps sparkling, thin pin white walls and a 302 burble :)
'This isn't going to be done quickly' .... How many projects do you have on the go? How long have you been working on them? Please finish some! but look forward to watching none the less!
I know I'm pretty frustrating from that angle, sorry about that! It is a hobby though and I go where the mood takes me. I've been continuously filming, editing and publishing videos on this platform since October 2012, with no real time off. Quite often, it takes weeks to do a repair and it only yields one video. I'm happy to keep going with these shenanigans, but if it was to feel like work and stress crept in, I'd stop doing it. I have finished quite a few projects, the rest will come, cheers.
Reuse recycle is always good - but nothing's like cruising in a sleeper 302 tbar auto, whatever you choose to do with it Peter, I'm sure it will come up a treat

I Like the looks of the XA more than the XB and never saw many around as a 73 gen Xer. Make it a plain Jane charmer, dog dish caps, six cylinder, zero luxury load lugger. It will garner interest aplenty.

Why not use the 6 out of the fairlane and the auto box and you would have a driveable wagon that requires some work just a thought as you have the running gear from the fairlane that could free up some space and give the wagon a chance to relive

Hi Peter, get the wagon safe and running with six out of the Fairlaine? It's too good to junk. More cars need to be saved. Otherwise, we would have no history of Aussie cars left to show.

Oddly enough, it doesn't smell at all... with very little rotted carpet and no front or rear glass to hold humidity in, we dodged a bullet on that one, cheers.

Nice same colour as our xB wagon growing up which carried my parents and 5 of us around. Awesome.
The wagon is so much better than I was expecting. It is definitely too good to cut up. For the sake of simplicity and to do something different (does everything have to be a V8?) make it a 6 with that 3 speed floor shift, which could be some sort of after market kit maybe? I had a friend who had an XK Falcon (in 1969) which had a Hurst 3 speed floor shift conversion which only moved in a fore and aft action. From memory, you had to push the lever down and forward for 1st and then pull it back (it sprung up) into 2nd and push it forward for 3rd. Reverse was push down and pull back. It also had a Lukey muffler and it sounded fab! Oh, memories, memories. Anyway, the XA is a brilliant opportunity. When you get over the excitement of it and have a chance to look at it rationally, I'm sure you will come up with something. 😊👍 P.S. Totally agree about the roof rack, excellent looking thing.
Sounds like a Speco Quick Shift, i had one as well back in the 80's.
Thanks Pauline, always a pleasure to hear from you. No everything doesn't need to be a V8, I just have a spare in bits here and I like to resurrect old junk. Despite that though, I'll be using the 6 cylinder engine, auto transmission and T-bar shifter I removed from the Fairlane - at least for now. I had to replace the shifter on the Fairlane because 6's and V8's are controlled from opposite sides. Stay well and I'll hopefully catch up with you soon, cheers.

What a beaut, She isn't the worst I have seen. My XB is in about the same kind of condition. I have a soft spot for wagons. You see a lot of people with coupes and four doors, but you dont see too many people with wagons which is what draws me more to them than the others.
Store the long roof until the time is right. Half arseing it means ultimately doing the job twice.

Absolutely does, but none of it looks particularly difficult, the sedan it a harder job, cheers.
XA wagon is way cooler than the Fairlane. Do a 'backshed' style resto then move it on and use the cash you make to finish your Plymouth.
It is a bit cooler, but I have a couple of other cars to move on before this one, cheers.
